The Red Tent
This course will be a safe space for women to share, rest, be inspired, be heard, express, learn about themselves through other women, and move freely. The Red Tent is the title of a book of historical fiction by Anita Diamant about the ancient indigenous women of tribal Judea. In the book, the ‘red tent’ is the literal place where they take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers and aunts. The Red Tent symbolizes the private, transformative and magical world of women.
Since the book’s publishing in 1997, there has emerged a global movement of women who are reclaiming their sacred space.
“The Red Tent movement is about creating regular feminine spaces for women to share their stories, rest and gain strength to meet the challenges of our time and their daily lives. This is work that we believe will make a difference not only to women themselves but also to all the people around them.”
We will explore:
Power of Body
What makes me a woman?
Our Cyclical Nature: Moon & Blood
